Apple may be setting the stage for a dramatically different iPhone model to debut next year on the 10th anniversary of the smartphone first introduced in 2007, Bajarin said.

Next up is the more expensive version with Apple Care the 32GB iPhone 7 costs £33.45 a month and the 32GB iPhone 7 Plus £39.45 a month.

Apple chief executive Tim Cook unveiled the phone at an event in San Francisco alongside a new version of the Apple Watch, called the Series 2.

The company also used Wednesday’s showcase to introduce a new generation of its smartwatches, which will include Global Positioning System tracking and enough water resistance to swim with.

And on Apple’s end, giving buyers an upmarket option they can actually afford is probably a good way to drive up the average selling price.

It’s official: there’s not going to be a headphone jack in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and Apple fans and fanatics are blowing up the Twitter feed.

As much as we might try otherwise, we could safely say this is probably the feature we will be testing sooner rather than later.

Apple promises a number of advances with these new earphones, including a rechargeable case that can hold 24 hours worth of listening time, the ability to recognize whether you have the devices in your ears, and the ability to detect new audio feeds and switch to devices in close proximity. Both the phones come with a Retina HD display, which is said to be 25 per cent brighter than the screen on-board the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus. Of course, the iPhone 7 Plus has a dual lens (wide angle lens and telephoto lens). During Apple’s fiscal third quarter, sales of the iPhone reached 40.4 million, down 15% from the same time previous year. The iPhone 6s and 7 both cost £699, but the iPhone 7 Plus is £819 – a tad higher than its equivalent 6s Plus (£789).

Other smartphone makers are also having trouble dazzling consumers with new advances.

“Apple’s move tells Swiss high-end brands that they were right not to touch the connected watches”, Biver said. But there’s another flaw worth noting: the jet black-colored device is more scratch-prone than the other color variations. The features are often put under strict observation when it comes to the iPhones, given the heavy price tags (starting from $649). Preorders will begin on Friday, and Apple will start shipping the devices on September 16.
