In January 2015 Apple announced selling over a billion iOS devices, including the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Apple revealed earlier this year that it already had over 1 billion active devices, but didn’t say how many of those were iPhones. But nonetheless, it’s still pretty cool to see such a major key in Apple’s history being played out in modern times like this.
IPhone sales fell for the second straight quarter, recording a 15 per cent drop compared to the same period a year ago, despite the average selling price for one of the phones falling.
Though sales were down overall, Apple said during its earnings report the launch of its 4-inch iPhone SE was “very successful” and noted “demand outstripped supply throughout the quarter”. Soon after, it just took only two years to reach another 500 million for reaching the milestone. CEO Tim Cook shared the news with employees at a staff meeting this morning, as noted in a news story published by Apple.
Amid the stagnating product sales, Apple has been eager to point to growing revenue from Apple Music, the App Store, its mobile payments system Apple Pay and its storage centre iCloud. But the future of iPhone is in a dilemma that what is going to happen.

He plotted the source of iPhone sales as three: customers upgrading from previous models; customers moving from Android and other OS; and first-time customers. Apple’s biggest rival in China is Huawei technologies Co., who said it would ship 140 million smartphones this year.
