Apple is favorite fruit for kids, study says

Researchers discovered that whole fruits make up more than half of the overall fruit consumed.
Researchers calculated the fruit consumption of people ages 2 to 19 by analyzing more than 3,000 responses from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2011 to 2012.
The study also revealed that the apples represent 20% of fruit intake among children between 2 and 19 years old, followed by citrus and apple juices.
In the study, researchers determined that 53 percent of all fruit intake came in the form of whole fruit.

After apples, bananas accounted for 7%, melons accounted for 6% and fruit salads accounted for about 5% of fruits among kids. One-third of fruit consumption was attributed to 100 percent fruit juices (33.5 percent), and the balance is made up of mixed dishes, which includes fruit drinks. More precisely, males and females, kids coming from rich or poor families, displayed no differences in apple consumption. “Juice is primarily water with a great deal of free sugar and hence is more fairly compared with soda, than the fruit it once came from”.
