Apple is working on wireless charging for iPhones, iPads

Bloomberg’s sources said the technology could be deployed on its mobile devices as soon as next year.

Apple is reportedly working with partners both in the USA and in Asia to conjure up a way to beam power to its device. Despite having wireless charging technology, users still need to plug in the charger into the wall.

That being said, wireless charging mats have become commonplace at establishments such as Starbucks. iPhone competitors, like the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, have included the feature for quite some time now. Assuming Apple gets all the kinks worked out, we could see its wireless charging system debut on the 2017 iPhone models.

Further, people in the company who asked not to be identified, stated that the company is now working towards eliminating technical barriers, including the loss of power over distance.

Rumours are starting to hot up surrounding Apple’s plans for the iPhone 7 in 2016, but we may have just learned of a key feature for the iPhone 7S in 2017.

Wireless charging is already available for a number of devices including the iWatch. However, those phones now use induction to charge wirelessly, meaning they must be placed on a wireless charging pad in order to recharge their batteries. Although, the iPhone 7 might not include wireless charging. It also requires aluminum cases for phones that would enable radio waves to penetrate through it. It minimizes the resistance caused by metallic object interfering with signals.

The power transfer efficiency declines as the distance between the transmitter and receiver increases.
