Apple launches new iPhones, waterproof smartwatches and Super Mario

“With a powerful new dual-core processor, water resistance 50 metres and built-in GPS, Apple Watch Series 2 is packed with features to help our customers live a healthy life”.

An adaptor to connect your existing 3.5mm headphones to Lightning will also come with every iPhone, although the small accessory looks like it would be easy to misplace.

The waterproofing, which opens the wearable up to swim tracking, among other things, contained a key element that actually elicited an audible gasp from the crowd when the company showed it off: a speaker port that expels water from the device, which is something I really want to try out in person.

“Its a new advancement”, said Alex Prince, Lincoln Park.

The Jet Black hides the newly designed Antenna incredibly well, while the colour also makes the transition from metal to glass also nearly impossible to see.

With the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, Apple may face a similar challenge.

The Home button is one of the most used elements of the design, and on hearing Apple were ditching the physical element and replacing it with the same technology found in the Apple Watch and Macbook trackpad did leave us anxious.

The new model comes in five colors: black, jet black, silver, gold, and rose gold. The iPhone 7 Plus starts at $769, but that jumps to $869 for the 128GB and $969 for the 256GB.

But the most extreme Apple innovation works if – and only if – its owners know exactly where they are so they can use them.

Physically, the new phones are actually not too different from their predecessors, the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.

While the iPhone 7 has been fitted with a 7 megapixel forward facing camera and 12 megapixel rear camera – with features to improve photos in low light – it lacks the potential seen on the iPhone 7 Plus. If you want a Hermès Watch, factor in a plane trip to Sydney or Melbourne to the price of the device.

Unfortunately, no. Most users upgrading to the new devices will still have to purchase new cases.

Wednesday was a big day for the Apple Watch, with a new version of the product, called Series 2, and a major overhaul of its WatchOS.

Apple isn’t the first to ditch the headphone jack.

Some headphone makers adopted a wait and see approach in the leadup to the iPhone event. The idea behind a move like this is that a lot of things are going wireless anyway.

What was lacking in Apple’s presentation, as has been the case for the Silicon Valley giant in recent years, was a new, can’t-miss hit like the original iPod.

“Ready to not lose that dongle or pay $ for new one?”

Apple has a history of preemptively doing away with older technologies, often prompting lamentations from users – at least until they got used to it. Co-founder Steve Jobs famously decided the first iMacs didn’t need a floppy disk drive in 1998, years before Windows PCs followed suit.
