Apple looking to test self-driving auto prototype

Apple has been rumoured to be working on a self-driving electric vehicle, codenamed Project Titan, but this is the first time its existence has been documented.

Three months ago, Apple engineers met with officials from GoMeentum Station, a 2,100-acre former naval base near San Francisco, to discuss whether the company could securely test its self-driving vehicle at the facility. In addition to the news that Apple is officially developing the vehicle, the Guardian also learned that the tech giant has opened up a discreet location in California, just miles away from its Cupertino headquarters, to develop this technology. Randy Iwasaki, executive director of the CCTA, told The Guardian, “We had to sign a non-disclosure agreement with Apple“.

The Guardian figured this out by obtaining correspondence through a public records request.

While some analysts see Apple as setting out to reinvent transportation, others have been skeptical, predicting that the company is mainly interested in designing and supply electronic components and consumer gadgets for increasingly automated cars.

The report also notes Fearon asking GoMentum Officils for a presentation regarding the testing ground and how the vast land can be used including photos and layouts.

It has been reported by our sources that Apple Self Driving Cars are being tested somewhere in Silicon Valley.

The location, which used to be the Concord Naval Weapon Station, is closed to the public and, according to The Guardian, is still guarded by military police, which likely suits security-minded Apple.

The GoMentum Station spans more than 5,000 acres and already includes more than 20 miles of paved roads. Vehicle manufacturers like Honda and Mercedes-Benz have already carried out tests of driver-less cars at this facility.

“You can’t tell anyone anything about your job”, this intern said said.

Apple refused to issue a comment about the revealed information regarding Project Titan.
