Apple may have kept a big iPhone 7 Plus feature quiet

A benchmark for the iPhone 9,4 (iPhone 7 Plus) has surfaced on Geekbench confirming reports that the new smartphone has 3GB of RAM.

The newly-unveiled 4.7-inch iPhone 7 and 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus handsets boast a number of noteworthy all-new features as well as significant performance improvements over the previous iPhones.

The iPhone 7 will come in silver, gold and rose gold – just like the iPhone 6s before it – but Apple has also chose to introduce two new finishes to the mix. Moreover, per Apple, the A10 Fusion chipset also consumes less power – two-thirds of the A9’s power consumption.

Talking of the specifications, the iPhone 7 Plus comes with a 5.5-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD 3D Touch display with 1080 x 1902 pixel resolution and is powered by a A10 Fusion chip with 3GB of RAM. At this moment, Android devices have much more RAM, and some even ship with 6 GB, but given the extreme optimizations that Apple is making in iOS, a lower amount is just enough for what the iPhone is capable of offering.

One of the key hardware changes which has been made by Apple for the new handsets is the upgraded camera modules, including the iPhone 7 Plus handset’s dual-camera system which unfolds a high-quality 2X optical zoom system for the users.

The preorders for the iPhone 7 kick off on September 9 and the phone will ship from September 16. “This is iPhone 7”, says Apple.

Memory comes in at 32GB, 128GB or 256GB on both and this being Apple there’s no microSD card slot on either.

The iPhone 7 also gets OIS support, which was missing in the iPhone 6s, but available for the iPhone 6s Plus. Both handsets also have a fingerprint scanner. If rumors are to be believed, then it is likely that the iPad Pro 2 could do away with the headphone jack, much like the iPhone 7.

At £120 more the iPhone 7 Plus is significantly more expensive than its smaller sibling when bought SIM-free and the gulf in contract pricing is likely to be similar, but it’s also clearly the better phone if you can stomach the size.
