Apple More Interested in Augmented Than Virtual Reality, Says CEO Tim Cook

Not even Tim Cook’s dance moves can stop the iPhone’s new wireless headphones.

Pokémon Go is the future – okay, maybe not that exact game, since millions of people have already stopped playing – but the augmented reality technology that made it so exciting is going to be everywhere in five years, according to a new report.

“I’ve been wearing them for a while and because they don’t have wires on them the wires tend to help the earbud to fall out because it applies weight on those”, Cook said during an interview on Good Morning America. One could suggest perhaps he knows of other people who have faced this problem, but for the CEO to publicly address a concern that has been gaining steam on social media ever since the AirPods were announced goes to show that Apple did think about this when it was making these wireless headphones.

Ahead of the iPhone 7 launch on Friday, Apple CEO Tim Cook has started doing the rounds on TV. In the interview, recorded at a school in Harlem in New York City, Cook will talk to Robin Roberts about AirPods and other Apple products.

The wireless buds were widely mocked on their release day: Apple lovers joked about how quickly they will lose such small pods and complained about the awkward design.

Cook says AirPods will be kept safe in the dedicated battery case and because there are no wires, there’s nothing to pull them out of the ear.

“By snipping the wires, I have never personally had one fall out since I have been using them”.
