Apple Music will be available on Sonos speakers starting December 15, according to Forbes.

Currently, if Apple Music users want to listen to their tracks through their Sonos wireless speakers they have to connect their smartphone or tablet to the speaker with an aux cable. What is surprising is that Sonos still refuses to allow Airplay capability into their speaker systems, meaning that Sonos users are dependent on Sonos to integrate a music streaming service into their software. “What we’ve found is that as Sonos owners discover streaming services like Apple Music they use the local collections they have on their home computers and cell phones less and less”.

Sonos is launching a beta version of the Apple Music app on 15 December.

By spreading it’s Apple Music’s wings as far as possible, Apple’s plan is to push it as a common platform to rapidly increase its data base. Sonos just released a well-reviewed new speaker, the Play:5, in time for the holidays. However, while Spotify bested last year’s top streaming music app Pandora Radio from a global standpoint, Pandora is still strong in the US where it remains the number one streaming service by active users on iPhone and Android.

During the public beta portion, the select listeners who sign up to participate will be able to tap into specific parts of Apple Music on all of their Sonos devices. This includes the For You, New, Radio and My Music sections, Sonos has confirmed. As with the vast majority of multi-room setups, Sonos requires users to choose songs within its own applications, rather than within the streaming app of choice.
