Apple Music for Android gets own homescreen widget

You can now add an Apple Music widget on your home screens if you want quick access to the service, Engadget says.

Just in: if you’ve got the latest version, you can now add an Apple Music widget to your Android home screen. But despite Apple Music being built into the iPhone software, Apple Music doesn’t have an official widget, although there are third-party apps that provide a workaround.

Here’s the changelog for Apple Music v0.9.7.

Fortunately, the widget isn’t the only thing included in this update.

Add any Shazam track to any of your Apple Music playlists.

Once you’ve connected Shazam to Apple Music, you can already add any Shazam track to any of your Apple Music playlists by going to the track’s details page, tapping the plus icon at the top right corner, and selecting “Add to Apple Music playlist”. Apple Music now also supports gift cards, you can go to Settings and utilise this feature to renew your membership using iTunes credit.

Though the new update sweetens the deal for Android fans, there are still plenty of complaints that haven’t yet been addressed, like the ability to stream to a Chromecast or Google TV.

You need to be subscribed to Apple Music, or be within the service’s free three-month trial period, to connect Shazam to Apple Music.
