Apple Music Tips and Tricks
Apple Music might be more human than its rivals, but it at times feels like said human’s been at the sauce.

The first thing you’ll probably notice is a tab called Radio, anchored by Apple’s new live radio station, Beats 1. The mere fact that there’s no free version means Apple doesn’t intend for Apple Music to succeed, but rather to fail without losing a lot of money in the process. After all, that’s exactly what Apple wants you to do.
After selecting edit, turn off the automatic renewal feature on the Apple Music subscription page. Whether Apple Music continues to exist after that is anyone’s guess. If you are in a hurry you might not give Apple the best look at your musical tastes and the new For You tab will not appeal to you. No offline copies, no playlists, and no bookmarks (just the struggle to remember your favourite albums you’ve recently been listening to). Like Spotify, songs come down the pipes almost instantly if you have a decent connection, and sound good. The software is also by DJs to keep their music collections in check, but anyone who relies on their music library might want to heed the warning of website Digital DJ Tips – “Warning to DJs: Do not upgrade to iTunes 12.2!” Tap on Choose Artists for You. From there, the app ushers you to For You, a section of playlists it generated based on your selections. You can repeat this as much as you need to. This is the first and only music streaming service built for people, not geeks.
As you trudged your way through the sand at Hampton Beach, carrying a cooler on your way to claim a spot, you might hear the Allman Brothers’ “Ramblin’ Man” or the Red Sox originating from more than one source, a parade of echoes along the shoreline.
Under Subscriptions, click “Manage”. And it wants to write your name.
Connect also does not allow consumers to connect with one another and listen to other playlists, the modern equivalent of sharing a mixtape with your friend, which was popularised by Spotify. Unlike Rdio, Spotify and Google Play Music, Apple Music isn’t available on the popular Sonos brand of speaker systems, but it should be added later this year.
Seeing an opportunity to cut into the Apple establishment, competitors like Spotify began using the Netflix model to offer unlimited streaming access to its music catalog for a monthly fee, bypassing the idea of “owning” music entirely. My experience hit an issue straight away with Grammy-nominated Italian rock-noir band ‘Belladonna’ and Nu-Jazz performer Maurizio Belladonna being seen as single artists. The short version: don’t delete music from your computer after uploading it to iCloud Music Library because anything there that does include DRM will all so have it should you download it later. But it also seems to be creating a few headaches for loyal iTunes users. You’ll see a bunch of different genres, which you will be asked to tap on to indicate the ones you like or love.

But the artists I followed, like Kings of Leon, Belle and Sebastian and Sonic Youth, used Connect as a portal to upload seemingly arbitrary photos and link to places where people could buy their iTunes albums. It’s only music that you can no longer share to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch.
