Apple opens Siri to developers, unveils iOS 10

There are quite a few reasons why Apple is making these apps standalone and not as a part of operating system package.

Apple’s desktop operating system is dropping the OS X moniker in favour of macOS, Apple said at its Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco today.

It won’t be launching until the autumn, but we’ll be seeing the first macOS Sierra pubic beta in July, and developers are already getting the initial beta as we speak. Siri on Sierra can be used to find files and documents, calendaring and messages. But to get the most out of the integration, customers will have to buy into both vendors’ technologies in a significant way. Similar to iOS, users can swipe up from the watch face for the new and improved Control Center, continue to swipe down for Notification Center and swipe left or right to easily switch out a watch face.

Apple unveiled ReplayKit live streaming during its Platforms State of the Union session at WWDC following the company’s public press event yesterday. Users can authenticate transactions through the Touch ID fingerprint sensor on their iDevices.

Apple’s Game Controller Programming Guide now states the following: “When designing a tvOS game, you may require the use of an MFi game controller, but where possible you should also support the Siri Remote.” iOS and Mac App Store games still cannot require a game controller, though of course they can still offer optional support.

In addition to speed, WatchOS 3-like the new Messages feature in iOS 10-is all about customization.

Chief among these is the refreshed Siri personal digital assistant, which now reaches deeper into iOS.

The new update in Messages app saw Emojis playing a bigger role as iOS 10 would now automatically suggest emojis that can replace a particular word in a message.

Although Apple is allowing some apps to be deleted many, including Safari and Photos, won’t be heading for the bin. To trigger Siri on a Mac, you click on the new Siri icon in the dock. And while there are some reasons to consider installing the early version of Apple’s latest update, there are also some reasons to skip the iOS 10 beta.

iOS 10 is Apple’s “biggest” mobile OS release ever.

Also new in watchOS 3 is the ability to much faster access emergency services, reply to messages in new expressive ways using handwriting, stickers, invisible ink, and full-screen effects, as well as to use the new watch faces Apple has prepared for this major update coming this fall.

Behind closed doors, Apple is likely doing a lot of AI research and development work in numerous same areas that Google and Facebook have been shouting about. Mute and call waiting will work on Spark calls, too.
