Apple Pay tipped to arrive in the UK on 14 July

Speaking to IBTimes United Kingdom, Jeremy Nicholds, who is the director of mobile at Visa Europe, explained how “pre-arming” Apple Pay will partly speed this up. The UK marks the first global market for the system, and Canada is expected to join the fold this fall.

Apple Pay has been available for sometime now in the USA but it’s now going to be available in the UK. At the time, the company merely said that it would launch sometime in July.

The service will be compatible with the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, and the Apple Watch.

A report on Apple-centric website 9to5mac showed a photograph of a document sent to Waitrose saying that “Apple Pay will be live from Tuesday 14 July”.

Apple is yet to confirm if Transport for London payments will work differently from elsewhere. This appears to be a rather small sum to limit payments to, but it’s likely just a precaution. Users would be able to pick a card from the Apple Wallet app, type in the amount to be transferred, select the recipient from nearby iPhone users, and use Touch ID to verify the transaction.

Moreover quite a few banks have already confirmed support for Apple Pay which include the likes of Natwest, Nationwide, First Direct, Santander, HSBC and many others.

The 9to5mac report also stated that staff in Apple Stores will start receiving training on Apple Pay and how it works from 12 July, so that they can explain the service to customers.
