It seems that Apple’s upcoming smartphone, the so-called iPhone 6s will be slightly thicker than last year’s models. The device’s popularity has risen in places such as China, which became Apple’s biggest smartphone market during the company’s fiscal second quarter, ended in March. The company is asking its manufacturing partners to make 85 million to 90 million of the devices by the end of the year. “By comparison, Apple previous year ordered a then-record initial production run of 70 million to 80 million for its first larger-screen iPhones”. Apple has already added this feature to the Apple Watch and MacBook laptop computer. In Merrill Lynch’s opinion, Apple could pursue a simultaneous release of the iPhone in China this year which could explain at least half the roughly 15 million-unit higher build rate this year. Apple may include its ForceTouch technology in the new devices, allowing the iPhones to differentiate between hard and light taps on the display.

Even with the Apple Watch still in process for launching this month in several regions, Apple is already said to be working on the Apple Watch 2. The sell-side firm wrote: “Additionally, we continue to see a healthy level of mix and believe the iPhone 6 Plus will be 27% of volumes in CY15, $75 GP/unit or 28% accretive to the iPhone average, driving an improved GM profile”.
According to the The Wall Street Journal, Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) is planning for its largest iPhone launch to date this fall when it unveils the next generation iPhone.

It was also reported by the journal that a third assembler is also being considered by Apple, Wistron Corp from Taiwan, to help in producing the new phones to achieve the new iPhone record.
