Apple: Pokemon Go has most downloads in first week, ever

How the mighty fall.

As Pokémon GO rolls out in more countries across the world, the USA market, where it was released first, provides some useful data on the app’s performance.

However, it has become impossible to ignore the fact that interest in Pokemon Go has subsided substantially. Seeing how much data usage Pokemon GO consumes over mobile may be daunting, but this simply illustrates that Pokemon GO is used more so over mobile than Wi-Fi networks.

Ever since its release on July 6, Pokemon Go has been all of the rage. It’s fun, certainly, but it can get monotonous for some early players.

While a fake Pokemon Go app may have reached the top of the App Store charts in Thailand, the official version of the app has been downloaded more times in the first week of its release than any other app in history, Apple confirmed on Sunday, although official download figures are yet to be released. “Previous blockbuster titles Candy Crush and Draw Something took months to gain momentum, gather tens of millions of users, and hit peak usage”, noted SurveyMonkey Intelligence analyst Robbie Allan. Since then, the game’s daily user count has been on the decline.

And despite all the hoopla in the media and word of mouth, downloads of Pokemon Go were largest on July 7 when it launched in the US.

Also the immediate buzz around the app made day one the biggest in terms of downloads. That’s quite a drop from a week prior, where it was close to six million downloads in a single day.
