Apple Preparing Fix for Glitch Causing Lightning EarPods Remote to Stop Working

Some new reports are claiming that the iPhone 7 Plus makes a hissing sound when under CPU load. Far more important than seeing how a professional photographer shoots with the new iPhones is seeing how Apple’s new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus cameras perform in the hands of typical end users. They’ve got “solid-state” Home buttons that vibrate using an internal Taptic Engine rather than actually clicking, and once winter rolls around, some iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus owners may have to get some special gloves to use their phones.

Wherever you find Jet Black written on Apple’s site, there’s going to be a footnote that explains the phone will scratch easily, and you might need a special case to keep it in pristine condition. The hissing sound is generally found in electronic devices when there are a few new parts like chips, which are not well connected.

Because the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus do not have a headphone jack, Apple shipped the devices with a set of EarPods that feature a Lightning connector instead of a 3.5mm headphone jack. Our testing has been admittedly limited, given that the device only came out three days ago, but we only experienced it twice; once during an iCloud restore and once during a factory reset. YouTube creator Unbox Therapy held a microphone up to the back of the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, and the older iPhone 6s to test it out. It seems like the problem is mainly affecting iPhone 7 Plus models, but it’s still unclear exactly what the issue is.

A man named Steve Hackett took to Twitter over the weekend to post a short clip of his iPhone 7 Plus.

In reply to Hackett’s tweet, Apple’s customer care team suggested him to go to an Apple store and get it replaced.

A video uploaded to YouTube by a user called DetroitBORG, claims to demonstrate the freaky hissing sound coming from the handset.

Engadget has speculated that the hiss noise could be a “coil whine”, meaning it’s a small manufacturing defect as opposed to a design flaw.
