However, he also pointed out that, excluding Apple’s iPhone, the Chinese smartphone market contracted slightly in the quarter.

Boosted by a new pink or “rose gold” colour option, Apple posted record sales of its latest iPhones in the first weekend that they hit stores in late September. “It gets harder to show growth”.

The remaining category Apple refers to as “other products”, covering the Apple Watch, iPod, Beats headphones, Apple TV, AirPort routers, and other accessories, booked $3.05 billion for the quarter, compared to $1.9 billion for the same period in 2014. Apple is also targeting gross margin between 39% and 40%.

Apple’s iPhone is the company’s biggest success story.

Apple is celebrating after beating quarterly earning expectations with revenue of $51.5 billion – mostly thanks to selling 48 million new iPhones, Digital Spy reports.

Cook cautioned that he didn’t think Apple could withstand major economic shocks in China, but he said that for now, “You really can’t tell the difference, if you look at our daily and weekly numbers”.

“We sold an all time record [of] 5.7 million Macs, continuing to defy the negative trend in the global personal computer market which IDC estimates contracted by 11%”.

Apple Music – which is coming to China this quarter – has over 6.5 million paying users. Analysts surveyed by Zacks had expected revenue of $153.4 million.

The Cupertino, California-based tech firm generated more than 53 billion dollars net income, increased the earnings per share by 43 percent and gave back almost 50 billion dollars to shareholders via dividends and share repurchases. “Services growth was particularly impressive in China, where the App Store revenue grew by 127% year-over-year”.

“The debate is going to rage on”, said Gauna, who sides with those optimistic about the company’s future.
