Apple readies 21-inch iMac with Retina display
Apple is planning a refresh on the iMac line within the next three months, according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The last time we saw Apple refresh the iMac was in May earlier this year where they introduced a slightly more affordable 27-inch model. “We predict the panel will use a LED phosphor material called KSF to notably boost color saturation”.
If Intel has Skylake processors with Iris Pro available by the time Apple wants to roll-out new iMacs, then I’d expect the whole lineup will move to Skylake processors. Interestingly enough Kuo also notes that these new iMacs could feature better quality LED displays.
Kuo believes that Apple will see a massive demand for iMacs in the coming quarter, as upgrades and back-to-school promotions are likely to double iMac sales on a quarter-to-quarter basis to 1 million units.
It was not so long ago that there was talk that Apple could release a new iMac later this year to coincide with the release of a new CPU, although it would be more ideally suited to the MacBook because of its improvements made to battery life.
Kuo did not mention whether Apple will also improve the resolution of the smaller 21.5-inch iMac to Retina 5K display grade.
The native resolution of the new 4K 21.5-inch iMac is listed to be ‘4096×2304, ‘ which means that users can expect text and images to look absolutely crisp, considering how pixel density goes beyond the Retina mark when squeezed inside a small space of just 21.5-inches. The notion is said to have come from LG, the display manufacturer of Apple. Meanwhile, Apple updated its full iMac lineup in September 2013 and launched a lower-spec budget iMac in June 2014.
As 9to5Mac states, back-to-school buying season is well underway, so it would make sense for Apple to bring out an upgraded iMac to appeal to students and institutions.
