Having run into a brick wall trying to build an OTT-TV service with national reach and access to local broadcast TV feeds, Apple is now working on a new “digital TV guide” for Apple TV boxes and other Apple devices that would service as a smart aggregation point for other video and TV apps, Recode reported.

Apple may not have given up on TV programming after all.

This means that Apple will act as the middle person in which they will tell its users what they can watch, and where they can watch it, such as from HBO, Netflix, ESPN, and more, and all of which can be done without users having to open up each app individually.

It seems that Apple’s plan for television has changed yet again.

Now Apple is just working on the interface.

Industry sourceshave indicated that Apple’s current TV plans are an outgrowth of the TV service it aimed to provide past year. If pay TV distributors sign on to the plan, it would let users access and download multiple “TV Everywhere” apps more easily. So it’s not clear whether Apple needs more information to make the guide work, or just wants programmers’ blessing to include them in the guide. Companies often use their apps to advertise other content, something that couldn’t happen if viewers are using Apple’s browsing guide to jump directly to the movie or TV show of their choice.

And Yahoo wasn’t even the first to create this universal TV guide for iOS. Some TV executives have noted that they like the idea of making individual shows easier to find but worry that providing users with a single guide will reduce their power of promoting their own shows.
