The company also saw record numbers of Mac sales-5.71 million, to be exact. iPhone sales in in total increased 36 percent year over year to 48 million units, and services revenue rose to $5 billion, a 10 percent increase.

The company said it expects sales in the Christmas quarter would be up just a smidgen on past year at around US$75.5bn to US$77.5bn.
Analyst Shannon Cross of Cross Research said the guidance for the current quarter of Apple suggested a year ago, the business can top its success. Mac sales increased to 5.7 million from 5.5 million, while the iPad continued to struggle, with volumes sinking to 9.9 million from 12.3 million.
The company, which launched its new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus models in September, sold 48million iPhones worldwide, setting a new fourth quarter record.
