The Apple editorial team has listed the best apps and games for the year, with Square Enix Montreal’s Lara Croft GO leading the way.
The new Apple TV launched a little over a month ago with a new feature that was central to its reveal at Apple’s Special Event in September, games.
Data collected by appFigures shows 38 per cent of those apps (1,002) are games, with developers flocking to the new platform in droves.
Apple TV is still not striking a cord with gamers despite offering console experiences such as Guitar Hero Live, Disney Infinity 3.0, and Rayman Adventures.

Having an app hand-chosen by Apple editors provides a huge boost to its developers, as it dramatically enhances the chosen app’s visibility on the App Store.
“We debated. We argued”, Apple writes in the intro. “Everyone had favorites, but to make this list of 2015’s finest, there could be no doubts”. Previously, in order to listen to Pandora on the new Apple TV, users had to beam music from the service to their TV using an iPhone or iPad via Apple’s AirPlay technology.
The top Paid game was actually Heads Up!, a party game devised by TV presenter and Finding Nemo voice actress Ellen Degeners, followed by the Premier League’s Fantasy Football app and Mojang‘s Minecraft: Pocket Edition. “When we first announced the iPhone, we didn’t tout it as a gaming device”.
He continued: “We expanded the market”.
Apple executive Eddy Cue addressed games on Apple TV in an interview with Buzzfeed this week.
