Apple’s giant iPad Pro goes on sale this week

Ever wanted a giant iPad? It will first be available online with retail stores getting the device later in the week. Made to work with the company’s new Pencil and Smart Keyboard accessories, the iPad Pro has a 2732×2048 pixel Retina display, an A9X chip, and four speakers to convey stereo imaging in any orientation.

It starts at United States dollars 799 for the 32GB with Wi-Fi model and USD 1,079 for the Wi-Fi and cellular 128 GB model. “This behemoth sports a lovely high-def 12.9” screen with enough screen real estate to allow split, “full-screen” multitasking.

PC sales have been sluggish for a while now, and Apple head Tim Cook believes that the launch of the iPad Pro will cripple them further, Digital Spy reports.

Apple executive Phil Schiller said: “The early response to iPad Pro from app developers and our customers has been incredible, and we’re excited to get iPad Pro into the hands of customers around the world this week”.

To go with the iPad Pro, there’s a Surface-like Smart Keyboard which doubles as a case, and a stylus called the Apple Pencil. There’s also a 128GB LTE variant for $1079. “For example, the ability to manipulate a 50-megapixel image right on iPad Pro in Photoshop Fix and then send that image to Photoshop CC on a desktop, for further refinement, is the kind of industry-advancing collaboration that millions of Adobe and Apple customers will benefit from”. The keyboard is priced at $169, and the pencil is $99.
