Apple has officially announced the long-awaited iPhone 7 launch for 7 September with its latest media invite being rolled out on 29 August.

The Apple Watch, a product that hasn’t been updated since April 2015, is also due for an upgrade. If that happens, owners of the newest iPhones will have to rely on Bluetooth-enabled headsets. “7th” could also be a reference to the iPhone 7, the expected moniker of the next version of the iPhone.

As every year Apple struggles to keep the info about its new devices a secret, this year is no different.

The company, which sent out invitations to members of the press on Monday, is expected to unveil the rumored iPhone 7.

The Apple Watch looks to receive its first upgrade since April 2015.

Apple often likes to include a hidden message in its invitations, but this one gives very little away. The major changes are with the hardware – the removal of the 3.5 mm headphone jack and the addition of dual rear cameras. A new version of the Apple Watch, with Global Positioning System location tracking, and updated MacBook Pro machines may also feature at the product showcase. In usual fashion, the company will be releasing a new device towards the end of the year (good strategy Apple!). Ten unique model identifiers indicates that Apple will be launching more than just a new Apple Watch 2 in three flavors next week.

There are other reports that the new phone won’t be dubbed the iPhone 7 at all but will be called the iPhone6SE. There has been a furore over the previous year about rumours of Apple possibly removing the headphone jack from its next flagship phone.
