Apple’s March 21 Event Could Spotlight Smaller iPhone

Though Apple has not shared any particular information as to what it will launch, the tagline in the invite reads, “Let us loop you in”.

The March 21 event is expected to revolve around the introduction of a smaller iPhone, created to jump start the company’s somewhat lagging smartphone sales. The 4-inch iPhone reportedly sports hardware and software specs identical to those of the last flagship released in September, 2015, packed in a design identical to the iPhone 5S.

It will come with up to 64GB of storage and more and have a 1,642 mAh battery.

The iPhone 7 is expected to be released in the fall, when Apple would typically be expected to retire the iPhone 5S. The new iPhone is said to be a mixture between the iPhone 6 and 6S, but it will just have a body that resembles the iPhone 5 rather than the 6.

But federal prosecutors in Los Angeles who are handling the terrorism investigation dispute Apple’s claims, insisting they are only seeking access to a particular iPhone to unearth any possible clues to San Bernardino tragedy.

Buzzfeed reported that Apple will also introduce yet more Apple Watches, which could be referenced in the “loop you in” title for the event. The new 4-inch iPhone is assumed to be called the iPhone 5SE, or as recent rumors has been pointing out, simply as the iPhone SE, an acronym for “Special Edition”. The keynote will take place in Cupertino, Apple’s home ground, at 10:00am PST. A new iPad is also rumored to be in the works and could make an appearance as the iPad Pro during the event. It will come with the new Live Photos feature that are now seen only on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Apple’s latest 9.7-inch tablet will not be a great leap forward, but it should include an A9 processor, support for the Apple Pencil and maybe even Smart Connectors for accessories like an iPad Air-size Smart Keyboard. A standalone update to iTunes that will enhance the Apple Music experience is also expected to be unveiled during the event.
