Apple’s new iDevices say: Small is lovely, too

Apple went small on Monday – cutting prices as well as screen size – as it unveiled a new iPhone and iPad aimed at first-time buyers and customers in emerging markets. Under the hood, the iPhone SE runs off of the same A9 64-bit chip found in the iPhone 6S.

“Tim Cook has said he thinks there’s a lot of life left in the iPhone product line, despite the media and investor community pressuring Apple over the potential decline in premium iPhone sales”, Blau said.

The 12-MP camera enables users to shoot HD video, with support for 4K at a resolution of 3840 x 2160.

The price starts at $399 for the 16 GB model, the most affordable price for a new iPhone.

The device will be available for pre-order in Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, the UK, US Virgin Islands and the US from 24 March, and on sale on Thursday 31 March.

Along with the Apple iPhone SE, a new iPad too was launched at tonight’s Apple event. Apple also announced the updated iOS9. That’s about $100 more than Apple typically charges for a brand new 9.7-inch iPad. By doing this, Apple claims the iPad Pro 9.7in will be more comfortable on the user’s eyes. Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, stated that the new full-sized iPad is also created to be a replacement for full-fledged computers.

Also like the big iPad Pro, the newbie hosts four speakers for real stereo sound when in either horizontal or vertical configuration, offers Siri voice control, has a faster processor and a larger internal storage capacity – maxing out at 256GB, a first for any iPad – if you’re willing to fork over $899 for the top tier model.

With the iPhone SE, Apple took the opposite approach – the company took new guts and stuffed them into the body of an iPhone 5S, a phone that came out in the fall of 2013.

The iPhone 5S has 1GB, the iPhone 6S has 2GB and we really hope the SE follows suit.

The camera has been given a big upgrade over the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, with the newer model sporting a 12-megapixel camera that’s as good as the one inside the iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus – if taking a photo with your tablet is considered a social faux pas, then no one told Apple. “We need to decide as a nation how much power the government should have over our data”.

From the looks of things, it’s just a smaller version of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro we saw at the end of previous year and a nice upgrade from the iPad Air.

Here are the new devices the company is launching. You can get it at Apple’s retail store or online. And it also lets customers exploit Apple Pay, Apple’s mobile payments service.

Apple says that doing so could leave all iPhones vulnerable to future hacking attempts, although federal prosecutors contend they’re only asking Apple to write code that would work with one phone to protect national security.
