Apple slashes iPhone, iPad prices while doubling storage

Apple has reported declines in iPhone sales for the last two quarters, which raised the stakes for the iPhone 7.

“It makes no sense to tether ourselves to our mobile devices”, said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

The iPhone 7 has a faster A10 processor, brighter HD display and stereo speakers with twice the volume.

Apple also revealed new wireless earphones, called AirPods, that will connect to both iPhone and Apple Watch remotely.

The iPhone 7 and its big brother, the iPhone 7 Plus, are set to be announced today at a special launch event in San Francisco, amidst much fanfare. They use a Lightning Port instead of a normal headphone jack.

“Developed closely with Apple, Lightning Audio + Charge RockStar plugs into the Lightning connector making it possible to use Lightning Audio headphones or the Apple Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter and charge your iPhone at the same time”, says Belkin. Still not totally clear is just how Apple will decide who gets priority for the new iPhone among those who are upgrading, those new to the program and those buying a phone outright.

The prices are higher than the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus were when they launched (£539 and £619 respectively). The iPhone 7 Plus starts at £719 for the 32 GB model.

The move is certainly a bold one, but Nicer’s parody site also points out the smug hubris (and, grudgingly, the eventual correctness) of such a decision: “Innovation questions everything you know”.

Apple last night unveiled Apple Watch Series 2, an updated version of its smart watch with an improved microprocessor, Global Positioning System and water resistance to 50 metres. Even if you have read the reports of the launch and the new features, we are sure there are a lot of questions lingering in your minds about the new phones. And Apple is skating on thin ice with this seventh generation of iPhone. “To help you switch, we’ll give you up to $650 in credits when you trade-in your current smartphone and buy a new one on AT&T Next”.
