Apple starts replacing iPhone 6 Plus iSight cameras to rectify manufacturing

Apple on Monday said it would offer some users free replacements of the iSight Camera used in the iPhone 6 Plus, addressing complaints that photos taken with the phone are blurry. Finally, Apple says the program covers affected iPhone 6 Plus iSight cameras for 3 years after the first retail sale of the unit. It is not clear for now exactly how many devices have been affected by the dodgy camera component, but Apple claims only a “small percentage” is affected. Apple has just announced details of a widespread fault in the iPhone 6 Plus’ iSight camera that is causing pictures to be blurry.

Any authorized Apple service center will accept the submitted devices under the replacement program. If you bought your iPhone 6 Plus after January 2015, your phone is likely unaffected.

Apple has launched an “iSight camera replacement programme” after a number of devices were found to produce blurry images using the main camera on the back of the phone. Apple also hasn’t said how long the fix will take, or what you’re supposed to do without your iPhone while that phone is being repaired. The company also assures that the problem does not extend to the iPhone 6. The easiest way to find the serial number is in Settings > General > About; tap and hold the number to copy it. Issues with the phone have been reported since last fall, a thread about the defects on Apple’s support site reaching over 100 replies, according to CNN Money.

In the past too (October 2013), the company had replaced a small number of iPhone 5s handsets as their batteries were seen to drain out faster than promised due to a manufacturing error.
