Apple Swings for the Fences With iPhone SE – Specs and Rumors

While we have been reporting about the fact that Apple is planning to launch a new 4-inch version of its iPhone on March 15 event, there still seems to be some speculation regarding the name and the pricing of this soon-to-be-launched Apple product. It’s surprising to see Apple offering such a small iPhone just after the 5.5 inch iPhone 6S Plus came out, so perhaps Apple is trying to offer as many sized iPhones as they possibly can. It was also said that part of the decision for this is so that users would not be confused at a certain “iPhone 5se” getting released while the flagship device now is the iPhone 6 series. The original rumor had the iPhone SE launching three days after being unveiled.

MacRumors says it received a copy of this research note in which Ming-Chi Kuo reveals that the iPhone SE would be powered by the A9 chip from Apple – now known to also power the iPhone 6s. In terms of design, it is likely to be similar to the iPhone 5s but with a slightly more curved 2.5D glass, which is in line with what we’ve been hearing.

Apple’s new mobile handset shall be named as iPhone SE (Special Edition) which is expected to be officially unveiled next month together with a 9.7-inch iPad Pro.

Apple wants to keep the physical features of iPhone SE exactly same with iPhone 5S and this latest iPhone will also feature the standard Bluetooth 4.2, fast 802.11ac WiFi, and VoLTE.

Kuo still strongly believes that the 4-inch iPhone will cost around the $4-500 price bracket. Along with the release of the new handset, its older cousin, iPhone 5s shall be lowered down to $225. Some of the new iPhone’s features include a camera that holds its own against earlier models, as well as a smaller screen size. This would help with sales in emerging markets such as India and China. The iPhone SE will however replace the current iPhone 5s and will also likely be sold at its price point.
