Apple to Debut Revamped Apple Store App With ‘For You’ Recommendations

Bloomberg’s anonymous sources say that the new app will likely include a “For You” tab, which recommends products to purchase based on the user’s prior orders, and that this could be used to prompt customers to upgrade their iPhones to the current model.

According to the Bloomberg report, the new recommendations will be part of a wider update to the Apple Store app. Right now, the design of the Apple Store app for iPhone and iPad is quite distinct with the iPad app favouring interactive photo galleries for presentation.

It is unknown how Apple will handle this sort of system in regards to privacy.

In Apple’s App Store, iOS device users can browse through handpicked apps on the Featured tab and go through the list of the top apps on the Top Charts tab.

The Apple Store app may be due for some big changes.

The “For You” product recommendations will roll out before Apple’s fall hardware announcements, which could help the company drive additional sales while customers browse.

The updated retail app could be rolled out in the next two weeks, according to people familiar with the intended revamp. Apparently, it will introduce a “For You” tab, which will offer suggestions of apps that you might like based on previous purchases and downloads.

The introduction of the For You tab to Apple’s App Store will also see the merging of the online store for the iPhone and iPad, which now have separate App Store apps. An Apple spokesperson did not immediatley respond to a request for comment. If enabled on your mobile device, Apple’s iBeacon technology can serve up details on specific products that you may be eyeing in an Apple Store.
