Apple to Make 5.8-inch AMOLED iPhone in 2017

Kuo adds the company will launch a 5.8-inch iPhone in 2017. Now, Kuo is at it again, noting that Apple will be revamping its iPhone series in 2017 with an AMOLED display.9to5Mac reports that, according to Kuo, Apple will be going with glass, plastic, or ceramic for the casing of the iPhone that will come out in 2017.

The analyst believes the 2017 iPhone could come in a new 5.8-inch model with an AMOLED display.

However, unlike the iPhone 4, the 2017 iPhone will feature a fully curved glass body. It’s also reported to feature glass panels on the back, and metallic sides similar to the iPhone 4.

In addition to a new form factor and an AMOLED display, Kuo also writes that Apple is exploring other ways to differentiate the device.

Apple may have something special up its sleeve for next year’s iPhone. With a design change, we could possibly be seeing an iPhone 8 in 2017, rather than an iPhone 7s. Wireless charging and biometric recognition technology (think face scanning) are also tipped to be included. Apple owns a number of patents covering secure facial recognition technology, including IP that relies on 3D rendering for increased levels of accuracy. The current 5.5inch Plus models are the largest smartphones Apple has ever made and now that there are reports of a larger device, it is clear that Apple wants to compete on all fronts with Android OEMs. If Kuo is right, Apple is changing its upgrade cycle. However, if it turns out that the production for AMOLED displays are not enough to meet the demands for larger screens, the company will still retain LCDs on iPhone with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch displays.
