Apple to replace faulty iPhone 6 Plus cameras

It’s kind of unusual to see Apple offer this iSight Camera Replacement Program now even though reports of blurry iPhone 6 Plus photos have been floating around since 2014, but better late than never, I suppose.

Customers affected by the problem may go to their nearest Apple store or call technical support to replace their cameras free of charge. Finally, Apple says the program covers affected iPhone 6 Plus iSight cameras for 3 years after the first retail sale of the unit.

Apple has announced that a small number of iSight cameras on the iPhone 6 Plus are faulty and will turn out blurry photos.

The iPhone 6 Plus is Apple’s thinnest smartphone. Wireless carriers are not participating in the program. The serial number on an iPhone can be found under the Settings> General> About tab.

Affected owners are being warned that if their iPhone 6 Plus has any other damage – a cracked screen, for example – they will have to get that repaired first, possibly paying for it.

According to the details shared by Apple, the iSight camera on a “small percentage” of iPhone 6 smartphones apparently has a defective component, because of which the photos captured by it are blurry. Apple is warning users to back their data up to iTunes or iCloud before having the phone serviced, so phones may be wiped or replaced outright as part of the fix process.

If you are having trouble taking clear pictures with your iPhone 6 Plus camera, you aren’t alone. On one of the threads on the company’s support site, more than 100 disgruntled users have expressed dissatisfaction with the camera of iPhone 6 Plus.

The recall came as Apple is expected to unveil its next gen products on September 9.
