Apple TV adds Dark Mode, improved Siri and more with tvOS 10

HomeKit – tvOS 10 brings some support for HomeKit to the Apple TV, but so far, only in the form of Siri commands.

Unfortunately, Single sign-on which simplifies access to entertainment apps isn’t ready quite yet. There’s now also a dark mode, which might look way better on your TV than the bright interface the system has been using since past year. For users who have turned on automatic software updates, however, their fourth-generation Apple TV will automatically download and install tvOS 10. Apple tells us it’s coming “this Fall” (spring in Australia) but no specifics on when we’ll see it.

A couple screenshots of the Apple TV’s new dark mode don’t do it justice, so I’ve included a gallery of additional screenshots highlighting dark mode throughout tvOS’ interface at the end of the article. Single sign-on is still on the feature list, so it’ll come with a future update. It’s basically a slideshow with Apple doing most of the work.

Aimed at US cable users, it eliminates the need to sign into individual on-demand apps like HBO Go and Showtime, which require the user’s cable login.

In addition, tvOs 10 also brings with it dark mode, which changes the Home screen and Apple Apps to a dark gray theme from their usual white theme, as previously reported by 9To5Mac. Single sign-on requires the cooperation of cable providers and the developers of tvOS apps, so let’s hope Apple has been spending the summer getting both camps on board.

When you first install iOS 10, it asks if you want to install apps automatically.

tvOS 10 doesn’t offer any earth-shattering changes, but it does include a few niceties. They’re also customizable too so it’s fun to play around with before you share with others on the TV screen. Otherwise, you can download it from Apple here.
