“Today we’re announcing a new app, and we simply call it TV”, said Apple CEO Tim Cook. Ask to “Watch the Louisville game”, and the game might be found in the WatchESPN app. They also have business relationships with content publishers, taking cuts from services like Netflix and Hulu when consumers subscribe from their platforms.

The “Up Next” feature will present content to users in the order they are most likely to view first. The top of that screen lets you pick up shows where you left off and shows new episodes as they become available.

With Recommended, viewers can explore curated and trending shows and movies, including collections handpicked by Apple’s curators, and dedicated categories and genres such as kids, sci-fi and comedy respectively.

You can also use Siri to watch live content.

Rumors suggest that Twitter are in talks with Apple to launch their Apple TV app.

Of course, a redesigned MacBook Pro wasn’t the only big announcement Apple made during its big October event on Thursday. This allows users to tune into live news and sporting events.

The TV application has a suggestion engine that offers shows and movies based on previous content watched, similar to Apple Music’s “For You” feature. When you install a streaming app from the TV Store tab, you won’t have to sign in again. Today, Apple announced at an event in Cupertino that it will also tackle content discovery with a new app.

The TV app will be available as a free download on the US App Store in December. Thanks to the inclusion of Siri, it is also smart enough to find live content and pull it up for you. This feature is available on many other streaming services including Netflix and YouTube.
