Apple & Twitter Could Launch Apple TV App That Streams NFL Games

The Verge took a deeper dive into what a potential Apple and Twitter partnership would look like.

Apple has longed for its Apple TV to be more than what it is right now.

According to The New York Times the talks between the two companies, which would allow millions of Apple TV users to watch games on Twitter, remain ongoing. Twitter wants to capitalize on a live streaming deal inked with the National Football League earlier this year for streaming rights to ten Thursday night games.

The NFL agreement comes into force during the 2016 Regular Season, which kicks off next month, with Twitter to stream the 10 Thursday Night Football games that will also be broadcast by NBC and CBS in the U.S. and simulcast on the NFL Network. Twitter CFO Anthony Noto boasts that the Thursday night streamed games will require “no paywall, no logging in and [come] directly from the source”.

The tvOS Twitter app would presumably offer more than simply a live stream of a given game but would incorporate Twitter content as well with users being able to interact with, or indeed contribute their own thoughts using the remote app on their iPhone.

Twitter has since signed a string of live-streaming deals with organizations such as Wimbledon, CBS News (CBS), the National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball, National Hockey League and Pac-12 Networks. If Twitter is well-integrated throughout the Apple TV, it could also be used as the de facto service for updating your friends on the best shows to stream and games to play.
