Apple unveils 4in iPhone SE boasting specs to match iPhone 6S

Compared with the iPhone 5S, Apple said the iPhone SE has a two times faster CPU and three times faster GPU performance, as well as better battery life. Apple sold over 30 million iPhone 5s models a year ago, making the 4-inch model a popular choice among Apple’s customers.

The online Apple Store has gone down just prior to the start of pre-orders for the 4-inch Apple iPhone SE and 9.7-inch Apple iPad Pro.

The Apple A9 is touted as one of the fastest processers among the current-generation devices. The new Pro is the same size as the iPad Air 2, which Apple says is the most popular size of iPad use.

Apple also released iOS 9.3, the latest version of its iPhone and iPad software. With the new phone priced at nearly half of the iPhone 6S, while having all the features of its higher priced predecessor, Apple is tapping into the developing markets. It’ll now start at $299, which is down from $349. The new tablet has a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera and it is the first iPad to feature True Tone flash. iPhone SE is available in space gray, silver, gold and rose gold metallic finishes in 16GB and 64GB models starting at $399 (US). It also has a 12 Mp iSight camera and four digital audio speakers.

Some of the major mobile phone networks and retailers, such as EE and Carphone Warehouse, have already confirmed they’ll offer the new iPhone SE, but contract prices have yet to be announced. India is not in the list of countries where the phone would go on sale on March 31 but Apple said that the phone would be available in India in early April. The new iPad also features support for a new Smart Keyboard which has been exclusively designed for it.
