Apple CEO Tim Cook spearheaded the launch of iPhone 7 models in an event in San Francisco, California Wednesday. But the new phones won’t have the analog headphone jack that’s been a staple for decades in just about every consumer electronics device that can play audio.
The new models should see a significant jump in photo quality, with much better portrait shots of friends and family, regardless of lighting quality. As expected, Apple has removed the port from the iPhone 7. Except on the new, louder, brighter, shinier, and water resistant iPhone 7, there’s no place to plug them in.
When Apple launched the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, a lot people were expecting it to announce new wireless headphones from Beats, which it acquired a year ago, and a wireless version of its EarPods that rumor had it would be called AirPods.
The company also launched wireless headphones called Airpods that will cost $159. He noted that the change reduces the components required in the iPhone 7. In a nutshell, the “driver ledge” for the display and backlight, traditionally placed near the camera, was interfering with the new camera systems in the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, leading Apple to explore other placement options.
Both devices also feature the same top and bottom bezels Apple has adopted for the last few years and a big circular home button, though it’s not physical anymore (more on this later).

The Apple Watch and accessories such as headphones land on Apple’s balance sheet in a catchall category creatively called “other”. Existing watches can get new software on September 13.
Regardless of which iPhone you’re buying, Rice said customers should be careful to backup, then erase all data and turn off the “Find My iPhone” feature before reselling. Once you’ve connected it to one device, the AirPods will be available via iCloud to all your devices and automatically know which one you are listening to music on, be it the iPhone, the Apple Watch, or a MacBook.
