All the United Kingdom networks will of course be offering contract deals shortly after the iPhone 7 announcement, so we’ll update this article once we know more.
But Apple would clearly prefer to push consumers to make the leap into what it envisions as a “wireless future”.
Apple is throwing both Lightning-enabled Earpods and a 3.5mm-to-Lightning adaptor in the box, rather than charging 70 quid for it, so that traditinoal ear phones can still be used with the phone.
Start with the AirPods themselves.
Removing the headphone jack – technology initially developed a century ago – also made it easier to make the phone completely waterproof.
Apple marketing chief Phil Schiller said ditching the jack comes down to “courage to move on to something new”. Or as Bob O’Donnell, a veteran consumer tech analyst at Technalysis Research, puts it: “You start losing those things at $160 a pair, you’re going to go insane”. That could just mean changing the headset cord so that it plugs into the same port that recharges the device.
“It makes no sense to tether ourselves with cables to our mobile devices”, he said during the company’s annual fall event. The new Apple Watch runs with a dual core processor which is 50% faster and a GPU that provides twice graphic performance.

Imagine, if you will, a pair of classic white Apple headphones. “We just lowered our expectations (for the iPhone) and that is because Apple is not able to deliver a good customer experience, and they can’t offer the new transformative technologies in the smartphones”. Schiller didn’t mention rival devices during his presentation, nor did he even use the word “Bluetooth”.
Some early reviewers are already captivated by the AirPod. “People enjoy listening to music on their smartphones today as much as they listen to music at home”, said Brian Blau, a tech analyst at Gartner.
“These look really great but think about how you are going to keep them away from little kids”.
Erickson said the move was “particularly relevant” due to declining iPhone sales, the growth of the headphone market in general and Beats Audio’s top position in premium headphone revenue.
The new W1 chip was the “only true groundbreaking functionality” introduced by the AirPods, as wireless earbuds, in-ear detection and tapping to initiate calls have all been done before, the analyst noted.
The country remains pivotal to the company’s business, especially with developed markets saturated and Apple still exploring promising countries such as India, where price is king and the United States company barely registers in market rankings.
The company also introduced a new generation of smartwatches that will include Global Positioning System tracking and enough water resistance to swim with, part of its effort to boost sales in its newest product line.
While the company sold almost 92 million iPhones in the first six months of this year, that’s about 15 percent fewer than the same period last year.

Apple has reported declines in iPhone sales for the past two quarters, which raised the stakes for the iPhone 7. The new displays are 25 percent brighter than the previous year iPhones. IPhone 7 Plus features the same 12-megapixel wide angle camera as iPhone 7 and adds a 12-megapixel telephoto camera that together offer optical zoom at two times and up to 10 times digital zoom for photos. The “Jet Black” model will only be available in the higher storage options of 128 GB and 256 GB.
