Apple Watch 2 may get thinner display
Everyone knows that the current Apple Watch is more of an iPhone accessory, and so future models need to make it more of a standalone device if they have any hope of staying ahead of rivals as the best selling smart watch. Of course, it’s unclear how much one layer of glass adds to the overall thickness of an Apple Watch, but theoretically Apple has other ways to make things smaller as well.

According to TechRadar, the second-generation Apple Watch will move to a “one glass solution” (OGS) display that will help the wearable device become thinner overall.
“The large loss for the second quarter was mainly because touch panel orders for iPhones continued to decrease, and Apple will change touch panel technology from G/G to OGS (one glass solution) in the new Apple Watch to be launched in the second half of 2016”, TPK said according to DigiTimes.
Producing the new touch panels was more hard than the company anticipated and supposedly caused yield rates to be much lower. MacRumors reports that the OGS display technology will eliminate one of the layers of glass from a traditional glass-on-glass display, replacing it with a thinner material. The 14nm processors lifespan is rumored to be in hours and not days.
The new wearable is also rumoured to come loaded with a Global Positioning System chip for the convenience of runners. Early word suggests a release this fall, possibly alongside the release of watchOS 3, which was announced at Worldwide Developers Conference.

The Apple Watch 2 is not expected to look spectacularly different from the previous generation model, with most of the changes supposed to result in software upgradations and working mechanisms. It could be released alongside the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
