Apple Watch 2 probably won’t launch until later on in 2016

There are just a few conditions you need to make sure are in place for hiccup-free upgrading: Apple Watch must be at least 50% charged, on its charger, and in range of your iPhone that’s connected to Wi-Fi.

Even though it’s the first update to hit the Apple Watch since it was launched, the upgrading process is painlessly familiar as your iPhone’s. It’s unclear whether these predictions are based on industry research, or if they are purely speculative.

However, Apple’s also known to prefer slim design over battery life. Back in June, a rumor predicted that the Apple Watch 2 could get a FaceTime camera embedded into the top bezel.

In terms of performance, it could mean that the second-generation Apple Watch will load apps faster, as well as having potentially smoother animations and transitions between menus and screens.

Analyst Timothy Arcuri of Cowen and Company also predicts Apple will sell 18 million Apple Watches by the end of 2015 and 45 million in 2016, although he says the forecast for next year is conservative, given the strength of the numbers this year. Surprisingly, the supply-side sources coming from Apple’s Asian production line have remained mum about what the new Apple Watch could bring, which might further hint at Apple’s mid- to late 2016 release of its new smartwatch. Given Apple’s penchant of yearly product cycles, many of us imagined that the Apple Watch 2 would hit the shelves in spring next year, despite the earlier rumors of a 2015 release. And if Apple is going to add any sort of bulk to a device, it will be for key features before battery life.
