Apple Watch 2 rumors: Release date scheduled for June 2016?

Talks about a second version of the Apple Watch started to roam around last fall; mentioning that the watch might be released some time around the second quarter of 2016. Amkor Technology and STATS ChipPAC will pitch in to fulfill the rest of the SiP’s, according to insider sources from DigiTimes.

The note did indicate that there may also be some tweaks made to the form factor of the upcoming wearable that are introduced via the Apple Watch 2, though they are still not expected to be very significant changes.

While both Nanya PCB and Kinsus Interconnect Technology supplied substrates for the first generation device, only Kinsus has secured orders for the second generation thus far.

In its report, International Business Times said that an Apple official has told the Korea Times about the Apple Watch 2 hitting the global market this June and its unveiling will happen in the WWDC, one of Apple’s traditional annual events.

The Apple iPhone 7 is all geared up for mass production, which the analyst Brian White of Drexel Hamilton Financial reported that it will begin no later than June.

Moreover, the report said that the new Apple Watch 2 will be “comparatively slimmer” than the current model. And while consumers are to expect several technical and feature-focused improvements in the second version, there is still uncertainty as to whether it’ll sell more than the first generation.

If the new wearable will indeed be revealed later on in the year, rumors have also suggested that it may be launched alongside the iPhone 7. The report said that these new details came from a note written by KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. I own an Apple Watch. In the Apple Watch’s case, the SiP contains nearly all processing, memory, connectivity, sensor, and power management components. This is why people believe that the product didn’t do as well as the company, investors, and analysts expected it to.
