Apple will replace faulty cables

The recall affects cables that were delivered with MacBook laptops previous year, up to June.

A “limited number” of USB-C power cables are faulty, people, meaning if you bought a slim MacBook between March and June a year ago you may need a new one.

This month, Apple will send out a new cable to all customers who completed their product registration process or purchased their MacBook on the Apple Online Store.

The reversible USB-C, which has connectors that are smaller than traditional USB cables, is used to charge devices and transfer data.

Apple will provide a new, redesigned USB-C charge cable, free of charge, to all eligible customers. “Assembled in China.” The new cables will have the same text but will will be followed by a serial number.

Apple recalled some of its USB-C Cable due to the fact that they might not function properly.

To check whether your USB cable is affected by the recall, beyond noticing that your fancy new laptop doesn’t charge properly, is by looking at the text printed on the cable.

Users may also go to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Apple Service Provider to claim their replacements.

Owners of an affected Surface Pro can request a replacement cable from Microsoft’s website.

As shared on reddit, MacBook owner iPhonedo received a package from Apple that included a new USB-C cable and a letter explaining the USB-C cable replacement program. Starting at $1,299, it includes a high-resolution Retina screen much sharper than that on the Air, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of solid state storage.
