Iran responded by accusing Saudi warplanes of bombing its embassy in Yemen and that Riyadh was using the row to hurt peace talks in Syria.
The crisis in the relations between Riyadh and Tehran flared up January 2 after the execution of Shiite preacher Nimr al-Nimr by Saudi Arabia.
The extraordinary meeting was presided over by the UAE Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Saudi Arabia was expected to garner the support of 18 members of the 22-nation bloc, in which Syria has been represented by the opposition Syrian National Coalition since 2011.
The prime minister recalled the “historical, cultural, and religious” ties and reiterated the established commitment of standing with the “people of Saudi Arabia” in case of any threat to its territorial integrity, while also stressing the need for peacefully resolving the conflict.
Iran meanwhile said Saudi Arabia was seeking to undermine talks to end the Syrian conflict, an accusation Riyadh fiercely rejected.
“The Saudi foreign minister assured me that there would be no impact from their point of view…”
In a televised news conference following the emergency session of the pan-Arab group, Nabil Al-Arabi said: “The Arab League won’t accept Iranian intervention in the Arab region and sowing sectarian strife”.
Salman earlier arrived in Islamabad, making him the second top Saudi official to visit Pakistan in a week amid growing tension with Iran over Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr’s recent execution.
Iran’s Interior Minister has told reporters storming Saudi embassy in Tehran has been organized by covert Saudi-affiliated hands.
Arab League countries on Sunday expressed their full support for Saudi Arabia in dealing with the “hostile acts and provocations of Iran”.
Shi’ite activists in eastern Saudi Arabia sought to distance themselves from the Qatif attack, saying it could discredit peaceful protests that had been taking place in the area since Nimr’s execution. In Yemen, a Saudi-led coalition of mostly Sunni states is battling Houthi rebels who have Iran’s political backing.

“At the same time, an attack on an embassy is an absolutely unacceptable event in today’s world”, Putin said in the interview published on Tuesday.
