Arabs strike as Israel bans Islamic Movement
Israel and the Palestinian Authority signed an agreement today aimed at providing the occupied territories with 3G mobile access, so far out of reach to Palestinian mobile firms, Israeli officials said.

The Palestinians want Israel to halt settlements construction and release the fourth and final batch of veteran prisoners in order to resume negotiations. University of Haifa’s Sammy Smooha said the ban would cause “friction and resistance” while Northwestern University’s Elie Rekhess, a leading expert on Israel’s Arabs, has said the move would lead to “growing unity within the Arab political elites” pulling together the various ideological streams.
Netanyahu also confirmed he would still attend a key climate summit in Paris that opens later this month.
Israeli police lock the front doors of the Jaffa Association for Charity after ordering the closure of 17 relief groups affiliated with the Islamic Movement of Northern Israel.
The European Union has recognized the illegality of Israel’s colonial enterprise, which is a breach of the Hague Regulations of 1907, the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, and the right of Palestinians to self-determination.
The Islamic Movement is a faction of the Muslim Brotherhood, and, as the document explains, “the two movements share an extreme ideological approach and a common goal: to destroy Israel”.
After parting ways, the northern group continued on as a service organization, funding charities, schools-gender segregated and coeducational-and local newspapers.
The highly sensitive Al-Aqsa compound, the third-holiest site in Islam after the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, has been the focus of the northern branch’s anger. He was jailed from 2003 to 2005 for operating charities in the West Bank that were allegedly affiliated with Hamas.
Mohammed Barakeh, the head of an umbrella group of Arab Israeli political parties and community leaders, told Israeli Army Radio the decision was “an unjustified draconian step”.
The High Follow-Up Committee for Arab Citizens of Israel, an umbrella organization representing Israeli-Arabs at a national level, announced the strike on Tuesday, the day after the security cabinet decision. At the same time both regional branches of Fatah and Hamas, and unaffiliated student councils, have amassed hundreds to repeatedly protest the Israeli military in demonstrations in the West Bank.
Activist argues foreign funds mean outlawing is ‘too little, too late, ‘ Zionist group calls to outlaw Islamic Movement student groups too.
In the same series, Olmert claimed that Abbas initially only offered to let Israel retain 1.9% of the territories – which Olmert called “a joke”.
News of the decision came a week after Netanyahu held talks in the White House with President Barack Obama in which the right-wing Israeli leader publicly reaffirmed his commitment to a two-state solution to the conflict with the Palestinians. The majority of the Israeli political parties support this action as part of the Israeli national consensus, indicating the diminishing margins of the Israeli society and providing additional proof that Israel as the Jewish and democratic state is a lie; it is democracy only for the Jews and even this is not taken for granted any more, with the increasing power and influence of the fascist groups in the Israeli Jewish society.
Strict security measures, including limits on who was allowed to enter, eventually halted those clashes, but a new wave of violence that began in October has seen Palestinians target Israelis elsewhere with knife, gun and car-ramming attacks. At least 78 Palestinians, 47 of them assailants according to police, have been killed by security forces at scenes of the assaults and many others in protests in the occupied West Bank and near the Gaza border.

The northern branch of the Islamic Movement rejects the Oslo peace accords between Israel and the Palestinians and boycotts national elections on the grounds that they give legitimacy to the institutions of the Jewish state.
