Short-handed and struggling coming out of the All-Star break, the Pittsburgh Pirates on Thursday acquired veteran third baseman Aramis Ramirez from the Milwaukee Brewers.

Ramirez is hitting. 247 with just a. 295 on-base percentage and 11 homers.
The Dominican slugger has ties to the Pirates, spending parts of six seasons with the club after signing with the organization as an amateur free agent in 1994.

Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette was the first to report the deal and the Milwaukee Brewers official player development twitter reported that Yohnathan Barrios would be going to the Brewers in the trade.
He boasts a decent slash line of.247/.295/.430 with 11 home runs and 42 RBI.
Ramirez spent nine years with the Cubs, hitting.
With the Brewers falling out of the playoff race early in the season and Ramirez on the final year of his contract, he became obvious trade bait.
The Pirates will make a corresponding move on the 25-man active roster when Ramirez joins the team.

Barrios, 23, is a converted infielder who throws hard and has pitched exclusively in relief since becoming a pitcher in 2013. He has a 2.68 ERA over 40 1/3 combined innings, striking out 21 and walking 17.
