He struck out five and walked just one, but Brad Miller slugged a two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning and that’s all the firepower Tampa Bay needed.

Alex Colome got the final four outs for his 28th save. The left-hander struck out four during his fifth straight start with six or more innings and two or fewer runs.

Forsythe hit his fifth homer in his last 13 games off Luis Perdomo (5-7) to put the Rays up 3-1 in the second.

It’s not often a baseball team can reset their season record for runs and almost do the same on the mound with strikeouts, but the Rays came up with 15 runs and 15 strikeouts in an easy 15-1 win over the San Diego Padres at Tropicana Field.

Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Nick Franklin was hit in the head on deck by a teammate’s bat, but drew a walk and scored in the first inning before leaving the game with a head bruise against the San Diego Padres. Despite Franklin not being diagnosed with a concussion on Wednesday, Topkin also noted that he will be reevaluated and tested once again on Friday. Franklin was wearing a helmet. Logan Morrison drove in two with a double, and Maile and Nick Franklin each added RBI singles. “Nick went to get some pine tar and I was already doing it, and I don’t think he saw me”. The Padres’ plan is to “get him back on the mound before the year’s out”, Green said. Duffy returned August 12 after missing two months with a strain in the same tendon.

“I need to be more aggressive, need to trust myself”, said Snell, who has given up two earned runs or less in seven straight starts. “Be smart about it”.

Longoria holds the franchise mark in a number of offensive categories including homers, RBIs and extra-base hits.

Rays RHP Chase Whitley (Tommy John surgery) completed a 30-day rehab assignment and was optioned to Double-A Montgomery.

Miller’s first home run came in the fourth inning, driving in the eighth run off starter Edwin Jackson.
