A spokeswoman for the Ohio’s Casino Control Commission said it’s a job for the Legislature or governor because fantasy sports doesn’t fit neatly into casino gaming or skill games regulated by that board. He says the scrutiny over DraftKings and FanDuel, makes it harder for him to run his own business.
Unlike in the United States, where sports betting is legal only in a handful of states, daily fantasy sports will have to compete with a well-established, lucrative sports betting industry internationally, industry watchers note.
Daily fantasy players with a love for sports in their blood should be able to be reasonably sure they’re not playing against a modern-day Arnold Rothstein.
Rep. Paul Tucker, D-Salem, said Schneiderman’s decision to outlaw the operations in NY was “premature”. FanDuel and DraftKings sit atop of an industry, Daily Fantasy Sports, that has signed multimillion-dollar deals with professional sports leagues, and claim to pay out tens of millions of dollars per week to winners. Today we have sent a clear message: “not in NY, and not on my watch”.
The daily fantasy sports companies are now contesting the attorney general’s decision in court, alleging that Schneiderman’s actions were an abuse of his power.
The first National Basketball Association game of the day tips off at 3:30 PM ET this afternoon as the Clippers host the Pistons in LA, but for the main FanDuel competition the focus will on the six games tipping off at 7:00 PM ET or later.
Various forms of gambling have been authorized in Montana for more than 40 years, but the online betting FanDuel or DraftKings offer is clearly prohibited. According to media reports, many other poker players made the jump to DFS.
Or to the lottery, for that matter.
State law allows for fantasy sports leagues but prohibits Internet gambling and the use of a credit card to place a wager.

“I’m not going to use a several-hundred-year-old criminal statute that was written at a time when this kind of industry was never envisioned”, she told reporters on Wednesday, according to published news reports. But it seems NY is mainly concerned about New Yorkers struggling with pathological gambling only when those New Yorkers are losing their money to private companies. Almost a dozen states are considering a few form of regulation for daily fantasy sports; Nevada recently ordered the companies to secure gaming licenses. “Because both companies have refused to follow the law in our state, we will take action to enforce state law”.
