Are Walmart Black Friday Doorbusters Dead for 2015?

Target will offer a Black Friday deal on November 26 for discounted items in its retail stores. Amazon now has clothing, electronics, small appliances, toys, make-up and more on sale. It’s a sign that spending is starting to take place outside the confines of Black Friday weekend, with a great deal of it materializing even before the unofficial beginning of the Christmas shopping season. The Walmart Black Friday 2015 doorbusters may not meet every definition of these deals, but there are still a few very exciting deals that most shoppers will think about as a Walmart doorbuster.

While it seems this should have happened years ago, Wal-Mart will be treating online shoppers almost the same as their brick-and-mortar brethren for the first time this Black Friday. “However, with so many stores open on Thanksgiving, promotions starting earlier and running longer, and other factors, retailers are seeing an overall erosion in Black Friday sales”, said the consultancy in a research report.

Black Friday is the busiest shopping day of the year for retailers and consumers, and retailers fight for attention from consumers. (REI) took it a step further by saying its stores, distribution centers and headquarters would be closed on Black Friday. Now, it’s an all-out war leveraging loss-leaders in conjunction with unheard-of store hours that end up costing retailers more than benefitting them. They’ll all vote on which deal or product they like best, and then those votes will eventually unlock deals for popular products. Because Black Friday deals are focused on value prices, they don’t rake in much money for the actual retailers.

A doorbuster deal is a special price, available for a limited period.

Deloitte says 78% intend to use their smartphone for shopping, and 55% say they use it to check prices, while 41% intend to use it to make a purchase.

Wal-Mart shares are down 33 percent year to date, after the company said last month that revenue will be flat in fiscal 2016, and earnings will slide to between $4.40 and $4.70 a share – down from $4.84 last year. That may mean going to the store before Thanksgiving to determine which one you’d like to buy. Kohl’s, on the other hand, already has a pre-Black Friday treat for its customers-giving them $15 Kohl’s cash for each $50 purchase prior to the main event. Customers will get a free $150 worth of Target gift card on buying an iPad Air 2, whereas on buying iPad mini and Apple watch they’ll receive a gift card of $100 for each product.
