Are You Ready for PlayStation Firmware 4.0?

Again, every game that comes out for the Pro will also work on the regular PS4. If you are planning to make the jump to PS4 Pro (or to downsize to a PS4 slim), today’s update also prepares your PS4 for a wired LAN connection, allowing you to transfer all relevant data from old to new consoles. It will be interesting to see just how much of Update 4.0 prepares systems for the arrival of the PS4 Pro later in the year, and whether or not that arrival will affect the content and frequency of major updates for the console in the future.

One of the main USPs of the PS4 Pro is that it can output HDR and run games at a 4K resolution.

The highly anticipated PlayStation 4 system software version 4.0 releases tomorrow, revealed Sony.

It’s one of the bigger firmware updates from Sony in quite a while and includes some highly requested things – mainly folders.

HDR was promised during the Sony PlayStation Meeting event in NY last week and will be available on every PS4, including the soon-to-be-released new, slimmer model and the PS4 Pro, which is coming on 10 November.

The new consoles aren’t the only ones getting high-dynamic range in graphics. Existing games can be updated by their developers, and you can get those updates via a free download.

There’s also a new Quick Music feature in the menu that allows easy control of Spotify.

Sony is gearing up for a big PS4 4.00 update which brings lots of features to the console, some of them are completely new and were not even in the beta edition.

We have already released a guide to the best 4K HDR TVs for the Sony PS4 Pro. The Content Info screen has also received a similar graphical overhaul. Obviously, you’ll need a display that’s compatible with HDR to take advantage of this feature.

The What’s New menu has been redesigned and will show you information about what your other Playstation friends have been doing online. You will be able to transfer games, saved data and user info. When the device does hit shop shelves, upgrading the firmware will unlock the ability to stream and render Full HD 1080p content: all Remote Play streams to Windows, Mac, and Xperia-device clients will support Full Hd, as will Share Play streaming.
