Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Larry McKinnon says the deputy is listed in stable condition after the early Thursday morning shooting in Thonotosassa.
Ranney, 42, was treated and released from Tampa General Hospital.
Though the suspect is considered unsafe, they believe residents in the area are safe. Information that leads to the identification of the person responsible for shooting Deputy Scott Ranney is worth up to $3,000 at this time.
“We have our K-9 deputies, aviation as well as patrol deputies as well as detectives and personnel patrolling that are as well the crime scene is secure and a perimeter is set up”, Lusczynski said.
Deputy Ranney was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the left thigh, and is expected to be okay. He has been employed by the sheriff’s office since July 2009.

They began searching the area when, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Colonel Donna Lusczynski says, the deputies spotted a man in the street, who then turned around and fired shots at them. He started as a detention deputy and became a patrol deputy previous year.
