Area students take part in NYC Veterans Day Parade
The country now has Memorial Day for those who died in war, he said, and Veterans Day for all those who served.

“It’s Veterans Day [today], but it’s known that is going to be the 11th month, the 11th day and the 11th hour”, the date and time when the Armistice agreement went into effect ending World War I, he said. “With the approval of this legislation on June 1, 1954, November 11 became a day to honor American veterans of all wars”. Other wars with United States military involvement followed, one upon the other, most notably in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Official national ceremonies for Veterans Day take place at Arlington National Cemetery, our country’s most historic military cemetery. We honor you, fine men and women, on this your special day.
“To all veterans, I want thank you for your service – not just for your time in uniform, but also for the leadership you are providing in your communities every day”, Dunford said.
Nine members of the PFC John J. Oliveri VFW Post 1582 and their families gathered outside the Doughty Boulevard headquarters in front of their memorial on Wednesday for a brief and solemn ceremony, honoring veterans and their service.
World War I, of course, was not the war to end all wars. The parade’s chairman said that those veterans are the greatest generation, because they literally saved the world. “It is our veterans that have protected American values and ideals”. On Veterans Day, Kottinger will be attending a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) meeting to share memories and tell stories of their experiences. Many, unfortunately, had to hide the fact they were in the military when they returned.
Just for good measure, we will also throw in a few information about Labor Day because, believe it or not, we’ve seen folks thanking troops on that holiday. There are 21.5 million veterans in America now. They will not be forgotten because they will receive the honor that they have earned by their sacrifice.

There were 14.7 million veterans who voted in the 2012 presidential election, which equals 70 percent of the veteran population.
